EXPLAIN THE CHARACTERISTICS OF DEVELOPMENT COMMUNICATION
DEVELOPMENT COMMUNICATION
Development communication refers to the use of communication to facilitate social developmentIt is a social process based on dialogue using a broad range of tools and methods. It is also about seeking change at different levels, including listening, building trust, sharing knowledge and skill-building policies, debating and learning for sustained meaningful change.
.Development communication techniques include information dissemination and education, behavior change, social marketing, social mobilization, media advocacy, communication for social change, and community participation.
CHARACTERISTICS OF DEVELOPMENT COMMUNICATION
1: its messages are designed to communicate to the masses. Simple language easy to understand for instance kam bachay khush haal gharana campaign from Government of Pakistan. This campaign was launched to control the population and they use the simple yet meaning ful slogan to serve the people

4:It starts with macro level ,communication flows from top to bottom .
5: DC campaigns are designed to serve people so the data is collected by the people, information comes from the development agencies. If the communicator wants to know something about the audiences they collect required data from different agencies. For instance government of Pakistan runned hapatitus awareness campaign when this epidemic was at peak they collected data from the country, made a guess of expected patients and then used the means of communications to spread the message about safe and healthy life style
6: It is applied in developed countries mostly more effectively like in South Korea in order to control corona virus they even launched the mobile application where they share data about the people and areas effected by corona virus and also direct people to take precautionary measures
7:Its Audience are heterogeneous, in order to design a campaign we need to keep in mind the general trends of the public. We see the government failure in current situation of corona virus in Pakistan as they didn’t plan the campaign ,still a lot of people don’t even know the intensity of the situation
8: There is no specific time limit for DC campaign.We need to run the campaign till the desired results are achieved. Many campaigns like,lady health workers,dengue awareness and control program ,Benazir income support program etc, All these campaigns are still running
9: It is sources oriented. Communicator doesn’t care about the needs of his target.they need to spread their message to the massed,Like Dam fund campaign when a lot of issues Pakistanis were facing like inflation,poverty a campaign for a water reserviour was launched and was running successfully that a lot of people gave fund and donations to this campaign.
